Five Keys to School Choice in New Mexico HERE:
January 10, 2018
Dear TTCS community:
At last night’s SFPS school board meeting (Tuesday, January 9th) there was a vote and discussion by the SFPS board to not renew the lease that we have with SFPS for this building, which expires in 2021. We anticipate that this action by the SFPS school board is the beginning of what will be a long legal disagreement about charter school use of public buildings.
We want to emphasize that our position is that the lease cannot be violated and that we cannot be told to move. We believe this action would violate NM Charter school facility administrative code. TTCS has occupied this building for 27 years, and we have served the community very well in this location. We have no intention of moving, and we will use all legal resources available to ensure that we will not move now or in the future.
As this conflict, initiated by SFPS administration and board, moves forward, we will most likely ask all of our families and children for support and assistance. Please make sure we have your current contact information as a “call to action” rally and meeting will take place soon. Your participation will be critical. Also, we will send email updates with information about a town meeting in mid February and we will be posting updates to our Facebook page to keep you all up to date on developments.
If you are interested in helping in our efforts in any way do not hesitate to contact any of us on the Governing board, or the school’s administration. Thank you for your support on this important Turquoise Trail Charter school matter. We are very confident of our position and we believe that there will be no change in our location for years to come.
Floyd Trujillo, Governing Board Chair Dr. Ray Griffin, Head Administrator
